Focus Features Acquires Tom Ford’s Sophomore Feature ‘Nocturnal Animals’

Tom-Ford_smEver since A Single Man came out over a half decade ago (starting Colin Firth on a path to win an Oscar the next year for The King’s Speech, in the process), I’ve been waiting for Tom Ford to step behind the camera again. The fashion designer turned filmmaker made a lot of people stand up and take notice with his writing and directing debut, so it’s been a long time coming that he’s making another movie. It’s called Nocturnal Animals and over at Cannes reports have Focus Features winning a bidding war to acquire the film. Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal lead the cast here, which is pretty exciting in and of itself. The flick is an adaptation of Austin Wright‘s novel Tony and Susan, potentially a two part story, and surrounds a book manuscript and the relationship between a former couple, among other things. It sounds dark but potentially with some great parts for Adams and Gyllenhaal, plus plenty of opportunities for Ford to craft a visual sumptuous feature. This is still a ways away from shooting, but it might be an awards player next year, so stay tuned on that front. Regardless of if the Academy goes for it, the project has my attention, be it in 2015, 2016, or later. In the meantime, get excited about Ford and Nocturnal Animals
