AFI Top 10 of 2015 Announced – Includes ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Compton’ in a Diverse Lineup

star-wars-force-awakens 1The American Film Institute (or AFI) announced the their Top 10 films and television programs of the year.

AFI Movies of the Year:

  • “The Big Short” (Paramount Pictures)
  • “Bridge of Spies” (DreamWorks)
  • “Carol” (The Weinstein Company)
  • “Inside Out” (Pixar)
  • “Mad Max: Fury Road (Warner Bros.)
  • “The Martian” (20th Century Fox)
  • “Room” (A24 Films)
  • “Spotlight” (Open Road)
  • “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” (Walt Disney)
  • “Straight Outta Compton” (Universal Pictures)

The big omission from the list is Alejandro G. Inarritu’s “The Revenant” and Quentin Tarantino’s “The Hateful Eight,” along with Tom Hooper’s “The Danish Girl” and John Crowley’s “Brooklyn.”  What does this mean for those films down the line?  Could “Brooklyn” not be as assured as we once thought?
