Oscars: Predictions for the Golden Globes, and Updates for the Academy Awards

spotlight_movieWith the Golden Globes coming on Sunday evening, AMPAS will turn in their ballots this Friday, locking in a mystery that won’t be revealed until next week.  Some major guilds have announced but as we’ve come to learn, many of the Academy members turn in their ballots nice and early.  Very few actually wait until the last second.  I’m unsure how much impact these announcements will make but they are a strong indicator of support for certain films.

Updates to the Oscars section have been conducted but with that, the final predictions for the Golden Globes will be revealed down below.

Weigh in with your thoughts on both subjects in the comments section.

Quick thoughts on predictions for the Oscars:

  • “Straight Outta Compton” continues to pick up momentum as predicted.  That may translate into love for F. Gary Gray.
  • With “Room” and “Carol” missing the PGA, are one or both heading for a big snub on Oscar morning?
  • “Mad Max: Fury Road” moves into the #2 position for Best Picture.  Can it really challenge “Spotlight” for the top prize or is that distinction heading towards “The Big Short?”
