“Collateral Beauty” is shaping up to be a film to look out for this year. Just days after it was announced that Keira Knightley was in negotiations to join the star-studded cast of the film, it has been announced that Kate Winslet is also being sought for a role.
If she accepts, Winslet would join a cast that also includes Will Smith, Helen Mirren, Edward Norton, Naomie Harris and Michael Pena. Rachel McAdams is also rumored to be starring in the film.
The film is being directed by David Frankel (“The Devil Wears Prada”), with a script by Allan Loeb (“Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps”). Anthony Bregman (“Foxcatcher,” “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”), Bard Dorros (“Spotlight), Kevin Frakes (“John Wick”), Loeb, and Michael Sugar (“Spotlight”) are on board to produce.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is an unconventional drama that features its actors portraying living embodiments of Love, Time, and Death. The outlet says Knightley would be portraying “Love.”
No word yet on Winslet’s potential character.
The film, which reportedly begins filming later this month, is set for a Dec. 16, 2016 release date, putting it in prime awards season real estate. As we previously reported, “Collateral Beauty” will also be competing with “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” for box office winnings on that date.
Winslet is currently busy making the rounds in the awards circuit this season. She has been frequently nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Steve Jobs.” If Winslet wins the Oscar this year it would add to her impressive list of accolades. Aside from numerous BAFTA, Golden Globe, SAG wins and more, Winslet has been nominated for an Oscar seven times and won once.
Winslet will next appear in “Triple 9,” a crime thriller. Casey Affleck and Anthony Mackie also star in the film, which opens Feb. 26. She also has a role in a yet-to-be-named Lee Miller film.
