25. “Be Italian” – Nine (2009)
Rob Marshall’s Nine returns with the movie’s best song and dance. “Be Italian” is Nine’s “Cell Block Tango,” right down to the red background and tiered layers Marshall utilized in his previous work. The intercutting of film footage draws a lot of attention away from the dancers – a problem seen in “Cinema Italiano” – but the sand, the tambourines, the frantic and ever increasing pace make this a win for me.
