33. “Seize the Day” – Newsies (1992)

Christian Bale needs to do another musical, if only to appease the 12-year-old me (and Amy Schumer) still blindly in love from him after watching Disney’s Newsies. Choreographed and directed by Kenny Ortega, “Seize the Day” is an energetic moment of masculine exuberance. Unlike West Side Story (1961) where there was no compunction with men doing ballet moves, the boys here engage in jumping and other athletic exhibitions of dance that aren’t too balletic nor too masculine. At time it looks unpolished, but that’s part of the charm.
