Historical Circuit: Top 35 Dance Sequences in Film, Vol. 2

1. “Time of My Life” – Dirty Dancing (1987)

I’m a red-blooded American female so, of course, I worship Dirty Dancing. The end scene never fails to put a smile on my face from the minute the opening lines of the song start. The dance asserts Baby’s identity, gets the camp to come into the new era, unifies the old guard and the new, and could probably cure cancer if it tried hard enough. Who can resist Patrick Swayze? The lift? It’s romantic and legendary for a reason, and I’m not one to swoon but when Swayze mouths along with the song….I’m done.

Honorable Mentions: Big Dick Ritchie gets his Backstreet Boys on during Magic Mike XXL (2015); Leonardo DiCaprio busts a move in Wolf of Wall Street (2013); Tom Cruise loves that “Old Time Rock and Roll” in Risky Business (1983); Rosario Dawson wants to go “out tonight” in Rent (2005); the Bellas final performance in Pitch Perfect (2012).
