Mad Max: Fury Road” star Charlize Theron is officially heading to the upcoming “Fast 8.” Reports confirm that the deal, which has been in the works for quite some time, is officially closed.

Word spread back in February that director F. Gary Gray and screenwriter Chris Morgan were eyeing a female villain for the upcoming “Fast 8,” despite the fact the script was not yet completed. At the time it was reported that Theron was the main actress in talks for the role.

Deadline first reported the news that Gray and Morgan were interested in Theron. However, the outlet was quick to say that the actress had yet to see any version of the script and had not been made an official offer. Theron previously worked with Gray on “The Italian Job.”

Now multiple sources confirm that Theron is officially on board the film and will join returning stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez and Tyrese Gibson. A post on the film’s Facebook page also confirmed the news, saying, “Our crew will face its greatest adversary ever in our next film as we welcome Charlize Theron to the Fast family.”

Gray joined the next film in the “Fast and Furious” franchise back in October. Production for the film is slated to begin in the spring. An April 14, 2017 release date is being planned for.

Theron, who is currently at work on spy thriller “The Coldest City,” has several upcoming projects waiting for release. She has roles in “Kubo and the Two Strings,” “Brain on Fire,” and “The Last Face.”

She has been nominated for two Best Actress Academy Awards, one for “Monster” in 2004, which she won, and another for “North Country” in 2006. Her latest film, “The Huntsman: Winter’s War,” opens in theaters April 22.
