Sundance darling “Southside with You,” which details the first date between a young Barack Obama and Michelle Robinson, got the official trailer treatment today.

The first full length trailer shows footage of Parker Sawyers and Tika Sumpter as the future POTUS and FLOTUS couple on their infamous first date. IMDB describes the film as the following:

“Southside with You” chronicles the summer 1989 afternoon when the future President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, wooed his future First Lady on an epic first date across Chicago’s South Side.

The film was written and directed by newcomer Richard Tanne (“Southside with You” is his debut feature) and screened to critical acclaim at this year’s Sundance. Singer John Legend executive produced the film, and Stephen James Taylor (“To Sleep with Anger,” “The Glass Shield”) composed the music.

“Southside with You” is the first of two Barack Obama films set for release this year. “Barry,” which tells the story of a young Barack Obama during his formative years in New York, is set to star Devon Terrell, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ellar Coltrane, Ashley Judd and Jason Mitchell. Vikram Gandhi, winner of the 2011 SXSW audience award for “Kumare,” is directing, with a screenplay by Adam Mansbach (who authored the adult children’s book “Go the F— to Sleep”). “Barry” began production earlier this year. Black Bear Pictures and Cinetic Media, the producing teams behind “The Imitation Game” and the upcoming films “Gold” and “Suburbicon,” are producing that film.

“Southside with You” is opening in theaters on Aug. 26. “Barry” is aiming for an unspecified 2016 release.
