Summit Entertainment has released a new official full-length trailer for its upcoming oil disaster drama, “Deepwater Horizon.”
Per ComingSoon.net, the action-drama film is based on the true events that occurred on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20, 2010. The film chronicles the courage of those who worked on the Deepwater Horizon and the extreme moments of bravery and survival in the face of what would become one of the biggest man-made disasters in world history.
The film has a loaded cast that includes Kurt Russell, Mark Wahlberg, John Malkovich, Dylan O’Brien, Gina Rodriguez and Kate Hudson. Peter Berg (“Lone Survivor“) directed the film.
This latest trailer gives a glimpse at the inner lives of the people who worked on the rig when the infamous disaster occurred. It features a voiceover and first look from John Malkovich’s character as well. It also provides ample footage of the explosion that occurred on the BP oil rig known as the “Deepwater Horizon.”
On April 20, 2010 an explosion on the rig killed 11 people and created a fire visible from up to 40 miles away. The fire could not be extinguished, so the rig sank, resulting in the well gushing oil from the seabed and causing the largest oil spill in U.S. history.
In March, the studio released images from the film that gave a look at the action and drama the movie promises, with shots of Wahlberg in particular in action on the rig.
The film is slated for release on Sept. 30, 2016. Check out the new trailer below.
