Yet another actor has joined the secretive “Spider-Man: Homecoming” starring Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr. Deadline is reporting that Donald Glover has joined the film, but per tradition, not much is known about his role.
Glover, who was originally a social media favorite for the role of Spider-Man/Peter Parker, has appeared in shows such as “Community,” “30 Rock,” and “Girls.” He also recently appeared in “The Martian.”
Details on the film’s plot, as well as character info, have been kept largely under wraps. Michael Keaton and Zendaya recently reportedly joined the film, but the official details of their characters have not been announced either.
Last month it was reported that the “Birdman” and “Spotlight” star was in talks for the Marvel and Sony “Spider-Man” reboot. It was later reported that the negotiations had fallen through. Then, it appeared things were back on, with Deadline reporting that the deal had closed and the renowned actor would be playing one of Spidey’s most infamous villains: The Vulture.
It is important to note that it is not confirmed that Keaton will play this character, or that the character will even appear in the film. Plot details have been heavily guarded thus far, and speculation is rampant.
However, director Jon Watts seemingly confirmed that Keaton was at least joining the film when he tweeted a GIF of Keaton the same day the casting news broke.
This isn’t Glover’s first encounter with Spider-Man. He voiced Miles Morales/Ultimate Spider-Man on the animated show “Ultimate Spider-Man.” Despite rumors to the contrary, Glover is of no relation to renowned actor Danny Glover.
The film currently has a release date of July 7, 2017. Holland’s Spider-Man was first introduced in the recent film “Captain America: Civil War.”
Stay tuned for updates on Glover’s role, as well as plot details for the film and new casting updates.
