Can “All Eyez on Me” follow the Oscar route of other biopics?

One of the most refreshing and invigorating films of last year was F. Gary Gray’s “Straight Outta Compton,” which has seemed to successfully paved the way for more daring and unconventional biopics about musicians and artists.  Today, the trailer has dropped for “All Eyez on Me” from director Benny Boom, which tells the story of Tupac Shakur.  Starring Demetrius Shipp, Jr. in his feature film debut, the anticipation and excitement for the film is at an uncontrollable high.

The film also features an all-star cast including “The Walking Dead’s” Danai Gurira as Afeni Shakur, Tupac’s mother.  Other notable portrayals in the film feature Kat Graham as Jada Pinkett, Dominic L. Santana as Suge Knight, Grace Gibson as Faith Evans, and Jamal Woolard as Biggie Smalls.

Rap star The Game was treated to a private screening last week where he commented on the film via Instagram:

All Eyez on Me” is distributed by Open Road and is due out in November.
