TV: 10 Shows We Hope Aren’t Ignored by the Emmys

  1. UnReal

One of the surprise hits of 2015, “UnREAL” jumped into the popular consciousness as Lifetime’s foray into prestige television. The superb show follows the life of the production crew and cast of a reality TV show. The season was full of moments of intense drama, heartbreak, and comedy that helped the show take home a Peabody in 2016. Shiri Appleby’s performance as a woman struggling with multiple mental illnesses, addiction and stress, is one of the under-appreciated performances of the year. It’s impossible to forget about Constance Zimmer’s superb turn as the showrunner for the series.  Zimmer and Appleby both deserve consideration, and with a Peabody and a handful of critics’ awards in their pocket, it should be difficult for the Emmys to ignore this outstanding show.
