A new trailer for “Suicide Squad” was released today, and it centers on Margot Robbie‘s Harley Quinn. The teaser gives not only a glimpse at what audiences can expect from her character in the film, but it also gives a taste of what the forthcoming Harley Quinn spinoff film might be like.
Details on that project are understandably being kept secret, but some fascinating details are still emerging. Robbie will be reprising her role for the film, and will also be on board to produce. In addition, The Hollywood Reporter is claiming that the film is not chiefly a Harley Quinn story, but will instead feature numerous female villains and superheroes from the DC Comics.
Although nothing is official, Birds of Prey and Batgirl are some of the characters being tossed into the ring. It is also being reported that an unnamed woman is currently penning the script.
The first look at Robbie as Harley Quinn will come in August, when “Suicide Squad” premieres. The film will follow some of the most deadly villains in the DC Universe as they have to work together to fight even bigger foes for a secret government assignment.
Also starring in the film are Viola Davis as government agent Amanda Waller, Jared Leto as the Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Jay Hernandez as Diablo, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc. Ben Affleck’s Batman will have a small role in the film as well.
“Suicide Squad” is directed by David Ayer (“Fury”) and is set for an Aug. 5 release date. A tentative release schedule for the spinoff film has not been announced.
