WATCH: First Teaser Trailer for ‘Arrival’ with Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner

The first teaser trailer for Denis Villeneuve‘s “Arrival” is here, just over a day after the first photos of Amy Adams‘ and Jeremy Renner‘s characters were released.

The footage features narration by Adams, and introduces her character as well as Forest Whitaker’s and Renner’s. The clip also teases the release of the full trailer, which is slated for Aug. 16.

The film takes place after alien crafts land around the world, and Louise Banks (Adams), an expert linguist, is recruited by the military to determine whether they come in peace or are a threat. Renner plays mathematician Ian Donnelly, who helps Louise on her mission.

Per Renner in an interview with USA Today, audiences can expect a “thinking person’s film” more along the lines of “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” or “Contact” than a big, alien actioner.

“Arrival” will have its premiere at Venice Film Festival, where the last two best picture winners – “Spotlight” and “Birdman” – also made their debut.

Meanwhile, another Amy Adams feature is set to debut at the festival. “Nocturnal Animals” is an adaptation of Austin Wright’s 1993 novel “Tony and Susan.” The movie focuses on an art gallery owner who is haunted by her ex-husband’s novel, a violent thriller she interprets as a veiled threat and a symbolic revenge tale. Adams also stars in this film, but this time alongside Jake Gyllenhaal.

It was previously announced that Damien Chazelle‘s much-anticipated ode to old Hollywood musicals, “La La Land,” would open the festival.

For those who will not be attending the film festival, “Arrival” is slated for release on Nov. 11 and “Nocturnal Animals” releases November 18.
