WATCH: ‘Rogue One’ International Trailer Reveals Key Plot Points

Rogue One

The international trailer for “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” has dropped, and it features some small, but key, differences from the domestic trailer that debuted late last week.

The biggest difference comes in near the beginning of the clip, with Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) explaining to Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) and Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) that a message from the Empire has been intercepted. As in the domestic trailer, she can be heard saying, “It indicates that a major weapons test is imminent. We need to know what it is and how to destroy it.” In the new trailer, however, it’s revealed who sent the coded message. Andor tells Erso, “The message was sent by your father.”

The reference is the first confirmed onscreen proof of what actor Mads Mikkelsen accidentally revealed in an interview with Sky News back in April. In the interview, he said, “I read the script and it was very beautiful, and Felicity is playing this lovely, strong woman and I play her father,” before adding, “And that was too much. I’m sorry.”

The new clip also seemingly proves Mikkelsen’s character, Galen Erso, is working with the Empire.

The trailer also features new footage of black-suited Death Troopers and Erso saying, “May the Force be with us,” which is a small variation of a fan-favorite line from the original “Star Wars” films.

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is directed by Gareth Edwards with a screenplay by Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy. James Earl Jones is back to reprise his role as the voice of Darth Vader. The film also stars Forest Whitaker and Ben Mendelsohn.

The film is slated for release on Dec. 16 of this year. Check out the international trailer below.
