La La Land
dir. Damien Chazelle – Venice – Summit Entertainment

One of the year’s most anticipated films, Damien Chazelle’s follow-up to the Oscar-winning “Whiplash” has pundits just gushing at the moment.  As the opening film at Venice, “La La Land” could be the first original musical to compete largely for Oscar consideration since “Moulin Rouge!”  This is all despite great ones like “Once” being presented along the way.  With a starry cast that includes Oscar nominees Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, early word is substantially positive.  Those early rumors also suggest we may have a contender in Grammy- and Oscar-winning artist John Legend, who has a supporting role.  All for it.
