Loving
dir. Jeff Nichols – TIFF – Focus Features

Based on everything that has been seen by human eyes, if the season were to end today, my money would be on “Loving” to win Best Picture.  Focus Features is putting together a campaign that is going to put them in the thick of the race.  Hopefully, this will find them in contention to win their first Best Picture Oscar despite many close calls (“Brokeback Mountain” + “Milk”).  Ruth Negga is likely to be a force in Best Actress, while Joel Edgerton will benefit from years of industry cred in all sectors of acting, writing and directing.  The both of them will be surrounded by the love for writer/director Jeff Nichols who already kicked the year off strong with “Midnight Special.”  This COULD be the “the one.”
