2016 Oscar Circuit Guide: Award Hopefuls Debuting at Venice, TIFF, and NYFF

dir. Barry Jenkins – NYFF – A24

Probably the single most anticipated film of the year for many, Barry Jenkins’ highly anticipated “Moonlight” already debuted a stunning trailer.  In addition, the film is rumored to be premiering at the Telluride Film Festival (a terrific barometer for an Oscar winner), and will be featured prominently by distributor A24 this season.  I’m sure many of us will learn and love the name of star Trevante Rhodes, and there is already very credible rumblings that Mahershala Ali and Naomie Harris are serious contenders in the supporting categories.  After two consecutive years of #OscarsSoWhite, a modern, impeccable statement can be made here by the Academy if the quality is intact.
