Emmy Episode Analysis: Can HBO Defend Itself in Comedy and Drama Series?

The big races are finally here. Last year we saw HBO dominate all the top categories, with “Game of Thrones,” “Veep,” “Olive Kittridge” and “Bessie” all winning. While HBO does not have a race in Best Miniseries, it is looking to defend its title in the other three major categories.

For series nominations, each nominated TV show submits six episodes. These six episodes are broken into three pairs. Voters then have to watch one pair, which is what they are supposed to judge on. Miniseries and TV Movie nominees require voters to have watched the entire show/movie. This year is different in that voters will have to vote for only their favorite in each category, rather than rank them like they would before.

It has been quite a journey going through all these Emmy categories. The more I watched, the more I thought about how we truly live in a golden age of television. Not only was there so much strength in each category, but there were even more shows not nominated that are just as worthy.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at the Outstanding Drama Series, Comedy Series, Miniseries and TV Movie categories.
