The J.J. Abrams-produced sci-fi film “God Particle” may be the latest film connected to “Cloverfield,” a new report claims.
The intel comes by way of TheWrap, who writes:
Not only will ‘Particle’ be the third in a series of connected ‘Cloverfield’ films, but Abrams and studio partner Paramount Pictures are quietly developing more movies for the shared universe, the individual said. Both parties hope to release a new film in the shared ‘Cloverfield’ each year, the insider added.
The report also mentions that Paramount and Bad Robot have made no comment on the matter. “Cloverfield” and its distantly related “10 Cloverfield Lane” are the first two films in the reported trio.
The film stars David Oyelowo and Gugu Mbatha-Raw for the Paramount and Bad Robot project. Abrams and Bryan Burk are producing for Bad Robot.
Oyelowo and Mbatha-Raw will portray the leads in the film. Julius Onah (“The Girl is in Trouble”) will direct. According to TheWrap, “God Particle” will follow an American space station crew who believe they have destroyed Earth through the use of a Hadron accelerator, and thus allow a crew of hostile nations to come aboard their spacecraft with disastrous repercussions.
Elizabeth Debicki and Daniel Brühl also star in the film.
Mbatha-Raw, who starred in “The Whole Truth” and “Free State of Jones” earlier this year, also has the upcoming gun control drama “Miss Sloane” with Jessica Chastain. She is also starring in the live-action remake of “Beauty and the Beast” and Ava DuVernay’s “A Wrinkle in Time.”
Oyelowo most recently starred in “Queen of Katwe” with Lupita Nyong’o, as well as Amma Asante’s “A United Kingdom” with Rosamund Pike. He also has Nash Edgerton’s top-secret project “American Express” with Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried and Joel Edgerton coming down the pipeline.
“God Particle” hits theaters Feb. 24, 2017.
