The final “Live by Night” trailer is here, and it does not disappoint.
Ben Affleck directed and adapted “Live by Night” for the screen. The film is based on the Dennis Lehane novel of the same name. It stars Affleck, Elle Fanning, Sienna Miller, Zoe Saldana, Chris Messina and Chris Cooper.
The film takes place in the Prohibition Era and centers around a group of individuals and their dealings in the world of organized crime.
This year’s awards season is already chock-full of exciting potentials, and back in June it seemed Warner Bros. was potentially planning on having a horse in the race with “Live by Night.” At the time it was announced that the project, which was originally scheduled to be released Oct. 20, 2017, would actually be released Jan. 13, 2017. In October, the studio finally confirmed a limited release on Christmas, to go with the wide January release.
Awards pundits were quick to note that Jan. 13 is similar to the wide release date given to Clint Eastwood’s dark horse “American Sniper” in 2015. It ultimately received a limited awards season release in December, thus qualifying it for the Oscars, where it received nominations in six categories (and won for Best Sound Editing). A similar earlier release for “Live by Night” was first rumored following a slip of the tongue by Fanning.
Per The Playlist, in an interview with WWD, co-star Fanning let it slip that the film would actually be seeing a 2016 release. She told the outlet of the film, “That’s coming out in December, at the end of this year. That was incredible because [Ben] wrote it, he directed it and he’s in it. I had scenes with the director, you know? It’s intimidating. But I would love to direct, so it was cool to see how he works.”
