The American Film Institute (or AFI) announced their Top 10 films of the year this afternoon. The big winner of the day was Paramount Pictures, which secured three of the award hopefuls in the lineup. The usual suspects are on the list, but the big shocker came with the inclusion of “Zootopia” from Walt Disney Pictures making the list.
“Lion” being omitted is not too surprising, as the Oscar hopeful is not considered an “American” film. However, no confirmation has come through as that being the reason for the omission.
AFI Awards celebrate the year’s most outstanding achievements in the art of the moving image — with 10 films and 10 television programs deemed culturally and artistically significant.
This year, AFI also recognizes “O.J.: Made in America” with an AFI Special Award.
