11. Glenn Close
BEST PERFORMANCE: “Fatal Attraction” (1987)
Few stars were more ubiquitous in the 1980s than Glenn Close, who received five Oscar nominations in that decade alone. As close as she came each time – with indelible performances in Best Picture nominees “Fatal Attraction,” “Dangerous Liaisons” and “The Big Chill” – she never walked away with a win. However, she’s had a resurgence over the past decade, winning an Emmy and Golden Globe for her role on FX’s “Damages” and managing an Oscar nomination for “Albert Nobbs” in 2011. Her role in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise won’t get her an Oscar. However, she’s overdue enough that one strong leading performance can nab her a win, à la Julianne Moore.
