Academy Idol X Top 8: Screenplay Week!

Hello readers! Welcome back to Academy Idol X, where we will discuss the results from our double elimination round. We’ll also get started on our top 8 voting. But first, let’s get to the results of our Top 10 double elimination round.

La La Land

Top 10 Results

This week, we only gave readers a single vote to choose their favorite films of the year. We’ll get to the surprising bottom 4 in a minute, but first, we have six safe films. Those safe films are: “Hell or High Water,” “Manchester By the Sea,” “Jungle Book,” “Arrival,” “Nocturnal Animals” and “Silence.”

This left us with a bottom four of “Loving,” “Jackie,” “Moonlight” and “La La Land.” Ultimately, it was a Golden Globe miracle that kept both “Moonlight” and “La La Land” as the safe films for the week. Unfortunately, this means that “Jackie” and “Loving” are going home. Despite having two of the best lead actress performances of the year, Natalie Portman and Ruth Negga couldn’t keep their respective films afloat. They’ve each still got a shot at Oscar, so make sure you check them out before Oscar night!

Academy Idol X Top 8 Voting Opens

With the Top 10 closed, it’s time to jump into our Top 8! This round, our voting prism is Screenplay! There’s a nice mixture of original and adapted works still in play. Our original films are “La La Land,” “Manchester By the Sea” and”Hell or High Water.” We’ve also got a lot of adapted films still in the running with “Arrival,” “Moonlight,” “Nocturnal Animals,” “Silence,” and “Jungle Book.” All the films have very strong screenplays, so it’s going to be a tough call. You’ll get three votes in this round, so keep that in mind as you vote for your favorites.
