The “Tomb Raider” reboot is taking shape. Daniel Wu – seen previously in “Into the Badlands” and “Warcraft” – is joining the film. Wu joins Walton Goggins and headliner Alicia Vikander for the project.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wu will play Lu Ren. Ren is “a ship captain who teams with Alicia Vikander’s Lara Croft on a quest to find her father.”

Goggins is on board to play the villain in the film. Vikander landed the part of Lara Croft in April of last year following a wide casting search for the role.

The Academy Award-winning star of “The Danish Girl” will tackle the leading role made famous by Angelina Jolie. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” breakout star Daisy Ridley was also rumored to be in contention for the part.

The Lara Croft character (based off of the character from the “Tomb Raider” video game franchise) was first seen on the big screen in 2001’s “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.” The film starred Jolie, her father Jon Voight and then little-known star Daniel Craig. Jolie reprised her role in the 2003 sequel, “Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life,” along with Gerard Butler. Another sequel was planned, but never officially materialized.

The new film is directed by Roar Uthaug, with Evan Daugherty and Geneva Robertson-Dworet on board for writing duties.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will “tell the story of a young and untested Croft fighting to survive her first adventure.”

2015 was a breakout year for Vikander. She starred in the summer action flick “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” as well as in the critically acclaimed “Ex Machina.” She capped off the year with her Oscar-winning performance in “The Danish Girl.”

2016 was another good one for the actress. In addition to landing “Tomb Raider,” she starred in “Jason Bourne” and “The Light Between Oceans” over the summer.

Stay tuned for more plot and casting news for “Tomb Raider.” The film will release in theaters March 16, 2018.
