“Avengers” scribe and director Joss Whedon is looking to tackle a DC Comics character next. Reports claim Whedon is in talks to direct, produce and write a “Batgirl” standalone pic.
The project reportedly materialized within the last month, and therefore details are scant.
Batgirl is the name of several fictional superheroes appearing in the DC Comics. The most well known is Barbara Gordon, daughter of Gotham City police commissioner James Gordon. As a civilian, she is given a doctorate in library science and runs the Gotham City Public Library, and later is elected to the United States Congress. She is a skilled fighter, hacker and is described as having genius-level intellect.
The move would be an interesting one for Whedon, considering his history with rival studio Marvel/Disney. He previously wrote and directed both “The Avengers” and “Avengers: Age of Ultron” for the studio.
Stay tuned for more updates on the “Batgirl” film.
