Focus Features released a new poster for the highly-anticipated remake of “The Beguiled” today.
Directed by Oscar winner Sofia Coppola, the film will make its debut at the Cannes Film Festival ahead of its theatrical release scheduled for June. NY and LA audiences can check out the flick June 23. The film opens wide on June 30.
“The Beguiled” stars Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman, as well as Kirsten Dunst, Colin Farrell and Elle Fanning.
The story is described by the studio as the following:
‘The Beguiled’ is an atmospheric thriller from acclaimed writer/director Sofia Coppola. The story unfolds during the Civil War, at a Southern girls’ boarding school. Its sheltered young women take in an injured enemy soldier. As they provide refuge and tend to his wounds, the house is taken over with sexual tension and dangerous rivalries, and taboos are broken in an unexpected turn of events.
In addition to directing the film, Coppola also wrote the script, adapting it from the novel by Thomas Cullinan.
The original film, released in 1971, starred Clint Eastwood and Geraldine Page. Despite receiving mostly good reviews, it was, at the time, widely considered provocative and was not a commercial success in theaters, according to Box Office Mojo.
