Production begins in Atlanta on New Line Cinema’s “Tag” with an impressive roster of actors. Helmed by director Jeff Tomsic (Comedy Central’s “Broad City”), the film follows 5 friends who play an annual insane, no-holds-barred game of tag. The real world of adult responsibility fades into the background as the best friends attempt to finally catch their 1 undefeated player, who still has a few tricks up his sleeve. To top it off, our undefeated player is also getting married during the month-long game. The stakes are higher than ever for the 5 friends and their unwitting family and friends. But everything will be fine, right? The film’s script, written by Mark Steilen (“Mozart in the Jungle”) and Robb McKittrick (“Waiting”), is based on the Wall Street journal article “It Takes Planning, Caution to Avoid Being It.” Who knew a real life game of tag would become a feature film?
Notably, the film features a star-studded cast skilled at mixing comedy and drama. “Tag” stars Ed Helms (“The Office”), Jake Johnson (TV’s “New Girl”), and Hannibal Buress (“Neighbors”), with Jon Hamm (“Mad Men”) and Jeremy Renner (“The Hurt Locker”). Not hooked yet? The film also features a strong supporting cast, with Annabelle Wallis (“The Mummy”), Rashida Jones (TV’s “Parks and Recreation”), Isla Fisher (“Now You See Me”) and Leslie Bibb (“Iron Man 2”). With 9 famous faces, the film’s surely action-packed storyline could take the best friend’s game to the next level.
Moreover, the film is produced by Todd Garner, Steilen and Sean Robins, with Hans Ritter serving as executive producer. Finally, the more creative side of the filmmaking team features director of photography Larry Blanford, editor Josh Crockett, production designer David Sandefur, and costume designer Denise Wingate. The film seems slated to become next year’s summer hit.
“Tag” comes to theaters June 29, 2018.
