One of the more unique aspects of last year’s awards season was how close “Deadpool” came to a Best Picture nod. Literally on nomination morning, there was a chance that the offbeat superhero film was going to get nominated. It didn’t happen, but that shows just how much the character caught on. We had a rave review here at the site, and obviously weren’t alone. Now, the Ryan Reynolds led movie is getting a sequel, and according to the actor’s Instagram, shooting has gotten underway.
The Hollywood Reporter confirms that production has officially begun for “Deadpool 2,” which returns Reynolds to the title role. Stepping in to direct this time is David Leitch, while Josh Brolin has joined the cast as antagonist Cable. “Deadpool 2” is again written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, with additional scripting duties by Drew Goddard. It has a scheduled release date of June 1st, 2018. Cue the excitement.
