Lena Dunham Will Co-Write the ‘Toni Erdmann’ Remake

When the offbeat comedy “Toni Erdmann” won the Palme d’Or at Cannes last year, no one would have expected that it would spawn a remake intriguing enough to get Jack Nicholson out of retirement. The American remake is poised not just to mark Nicholson’s return to acting, but Kristen Wiig opposite him. Now, it appears that Lena Dunham will be involved in the production as well.

european film awardsAccording to The Playlist, Dunham will be co-writing the remake with her “Girls” cohort Jenni Konner. They’re actually terrific choices, as they have a handle on awkward comedy and probably can retain the unusual sexual element of the flick. The movie has Will Ferrell and Adam McKay producing, though no director is signed on just yet. Suffice to say, an A-list one will probably be swayed by Dunham if the script is good enough. The “Toni Erdmann” remake just might be the most interesting one brewing in Hollywood right now. Stay tuned for more as this one comes together…
