Felicity Jones (“The Theory of Everything”) will star in a dance-less film adaptation of “Swan Lake.” The concept may sound strange, as “Swan Lake” is, you know….all dance, no words. But apparently the plot of the ballet, not its beautiful dancing, is the groundwork for the film adaptation. The “Swan Lake” film adaptation will reportedly center on the ballet’s heroine Odette, a princess who’s cursed by an evil sorcerer and turned into a swan. For those who go to the movie theater more often than the ballet, “Swan Lake” is the ballet featured in Oscar-winning “Black Swan.”
According to Variety, the film’s script will be written by Kristina Lauren Anderson, who previously wrote the screenplay “Catherine the Great.” That screenplay went on the 2014 Black List, a list of the year’s best screenplays that have not yet been made.
Jones is, of course, best known for her role in “Rogue One,” a 2016 Star Wars prequel. The film was well-received by fans and made over $1 billon globally within the first 40 days of its release. Jones played Jyn Erso, a tough rebel in the Resistance who lays down her life in order to get vital information to Princess Leia. If Jones is to play Princess Odette, she will certainly bring a punch of steady, fierce power to the helm.
The film’s script is currently being shopped around to several different production companies. According to Variety, Paramount and Universal are among the bidders for the script’s rights.
