Amazon Studios released a teaser trailer for “Wonderstruck,” the newest film from Todd Haynes.
Based on the book by Brian Selznick, “Wonderstruck” is the simultaneous stories of two children living 50 years apart. One is a boy living in the midwest, and the other is a girl growing up in New York City 50 years earlier. The two share a mysterious connection.
The film stars Oakes Fegley (“Pete’s Dragon”) and newcomer Millicent Simmonds as the children at the center of the story. Julianne Moore (“Still Alice”), Cory Michael Smith (“Carol”) and Michelle Williams (“Manchester by the Sea”).
Todd Haynes brings “Wonderstruck” as his follow up to the 2015 film, “Carol.” That film was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture. He also directed Julianne Moore in “Far from Heaven,” and was nominated for a Primetime Emmy for directing the miniseries “Mildred Pierce.”
Brian Selznick adapted his own novel into the screenplay. It is his first screenplay credit, although another of his novels, “Hugo Cabret,” was adapted by Martin Scorsese and became Best Picture nominee “Hugo” in 2011. “Wonderstruck” was published by Scholastic Press in 2011 and has won a number of awards for children’s books.
“Wonderstruck” debuted at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. It was nominated for the Palme d’Or. The film will screen this fall at the New York Film Festival ahead of its theatrical release.
The film marks the sixth partnership between Amazon Studios and Roadside Attractions. They partnered on last year’s “Manchester by the Sea,” which won two Academy Awards out of six nominations.
“Wonderstruck” is scheduled for limited release on October 20.
