The CW has just announced a newcomer to the sixth season of “Arrow,” according to Variety. Sydelle Noel (“GLOW”) will be featured in a recurring role as Samanda Watson, “an FBI agent who will be investigating Oliver Queen’s connections to the Green Arrow.” Noel’s character is said to be “intelligent and poised with a no nonsense attitude,” which does not bode well for the reticent Oliver Queen.
The character announcement occurred at the Television Critic Association’s press tour this week. The addition of Noel’s character is part of a bid to include more female characters into the TV DC universe, according to “Arrow” executive producer Marc Guggenheim. Noel joins Juliana Harkavy (“Last Shift”), and Katie Cassidy (“Taken”), who will officially be series regulars next season. However, as Harkavy and Cassidy have been in previous seasons, Noel is the only female newcomer in Season 6.
Noel is best recognized for her role as Cherry Bang on Netflix’s “GLOW,” where she plays a stuntwoman turned female wrestler. She will also feature in Marvel’s “Black Panther,” where she plays Xoliswa. Her character is a member of the Dora Milaje, a group of elite female bodyguards, tasked with the protection of Wakandan King T’Challa.
“Arrow” premieres its sixth season Thursday, Oct. 12 at 9 pm on The CW. Watch the official trailer below.
