Sony Pictures Classics unveiled a new poster for its upcoming film, “Novitiate.”
The film, which is set in the 1960s, follows the journey of a young, aspiring nun as she questions her faith and commitment to the church.
“Novitiate” stars Margaret Qualley (“The Leftovers”) as the young woman at the center of the story. She will also appear in the upcoming films “Strange But True” and “Death Note.”
Melissa Leo is the Reverend Mother who clings to the tried and true traditions of the church. Leo won an Academy Award for her role in “The Fighter” as Best Supporting Actress. She was also nominated for her leading role in “Frozen River.”
“Novitiate” also stars Julianne Nicholson (“August: Osage County”), Dianna Agron (“Glee”), Morgan Saylor (“Homeland”), Maddie Hasson (“Twisted”), Liana Liberto (“If I Stay”), Rebecca Dayan (“The Neon Demon”), Eline Powell (“Game of Thrones”) and Denis O’Hare (“American Horror Story”).
The film was written and directed by Maggie Betts. She won the Breakthrough Director prize in January at the Sundance Film Festival when it screened there.
“Novitiate” will screen at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, followed by a limited theatrical run beginning October 27.
