STX Entertainment released the first official trailer for “Molly’s Game.”
The film, which stars Jessica Chastain in the title role, is Aaron Sorkin‘s directorial debut.
“Molly’s Game” is based on the memoir by Molly Bloom, who became the focus of an FBI investigation after she launched a series of high-stakes poker tournaments catering to the super rich. Bloom’s clients included movie stars, elite businessmen, and members of the Russian mob. She began her career as a skier who turned to the lucrative gambling world when her Olympic dreams were crushed.
In addition to directing, Sorkin also wrote the screenplay. He won an Academy Award for “The Social Network,” and was nominated again for “Moneyball.” Both scripts were adapted from memoirs. Sorkin was also the creative mind behind the Emmy-winning series “The West Wing,” winning four Primetime Emmys for Best Television Drama.
Chastain is a two-time Academy Award nominee. She was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in 2011 for “The Help,” and followed that up the next year with her leading role in “Zero Dark Thirty.” Earlier this year, Chastain also starred in “The Zookeeper’s Wife,” and her film “Woman Walks Ahead” will screen at the Toronto Film Festival in September.
Joining Chastain is Idris Elba. Elba won a Golden Globe for his performance on the TV series “Luther,” in which he played the lead. Later this year, he also stars in “The Mountain Between Us” opposite Kate Winslet. He also starred in “The Dark Tower,” and will appear in “Thor: Ragnarok.”
The cast of “Molly’s Game” also includes Michael Cera (“Arrested Development”), Kevin Costner (“Hidden Figures”), and Chris O’Dowd (“Get Shorty”).
“Molly’s Game” will be released nationwide on November 22.
