WATCH: Dan Stevens Has Writer’s Block in ‘The Man Who Invented Christmas’ Trailer

Christmas will come a tad early this year. Bleeker Street has just released its first official trailer for their upcoming Charles Dickens’ biopic “The Man Who Invented Christmas,” and it features all your favorite “Christmas Carol” characters coming to life before your eyes.

The film stars Dan Stevens (“Beauty and the Beast”) as a young Dickens on the verge of washing out of the writing world. In a final bid to best a serious case of writer’s block, Dickens conjures up one of the most well-known Christmas stories of all time. Melding ordinary people from his own life with a hyperactive imagination, Dickens creates a classic story with unforgettable personalities. The biopic features Christopher Plummer (“The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”) as the irritable Ebenezer Scrooge and Jonathan Pryce (“Game of Thrones”) as Dickens’ father.

According to Deadline, “The Man Who Invented Christmas” is helmed by director Bharat Nalluri (“Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day”), with a screenplay written by Susan Coyne (“Anne of Green Gables”). The film is an adaptation of Les Standiford’s book of the same name, which tells the story of “A Christmas Carol’s” creation.

The film will come to theaters at the start of the Christmas season, rather than releasing on Christmas Day itself. It’s a wise move, as it would’ve fought against Steven Spielberg’s “The Post,” Alexander Payne’s “Downsizing,” and Michael Gracey’s “The Greatest Showman,” all of which come out that same week. It’s also clear that Bleeker Street is hoping for a decent showing during awards season, as the film will sneak in just under the release date deadline.

“The Man Who Invented Christmas” comes to theaters Nov. 22. Watch the official trailer below.
