WATCH: Gary Oldman Faces War at Home and Abroad in New ‘Darkest Hour’ Trailer

Focus Features released a new trailer for the highly anticipated “Darkest Hour.”

Gary Oldman stars as the embattled Winston Churchill, facing mutinous countrymen while the war in Europe stretches toward Britain’s shore.

Oldman’s performance as the legendary world leader has put him front and center in the Oscar conversation. He received his first nomination in 2011 for “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.” This followed years of iconic performances in everything from “Léon: The Professional” to Nolan’s “Dark Knight” trilogy, to the “Harry Potter” franchise.

The cast also includes Ben Mendelsohn (“Rogue One”), Lily James (“Baby Driver”), Stephen Dillane (“Game of Thrones”), and Kristin Scott Thomas (“Gosford Park”).

“Darkest Hour” was directed by Joe Wright. He received a Golden Globe nomination for the 2007 film “Atonement.” That film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture, although Wright fell short in the directing category.

The script was written by Anthony McCarten. He was nominated for the Adapted Screenplay for “The Theory of Everything” in 2014.

The film has received a lot of praise as it screens at festivals. Read Awards Circuit writer Mark Johnson’s four star “Darkest Hour” review from Telluride.

“Darkest Hour” will be in theaters November 22.
