We’re about to wrap up Halloween Madness 2017: Monsters! This year has been full of upsets and surprising pushes by characters and films that didn’t receive as much love last year. Coming into the competition, a final between Regan from “The Exorcist” and Jack Torrence from “The Shining” might have felt like a retread. However, our readers have mixed up their picks from last year, and we’re heading into an exciting Final Four! Before we begin our semi-finals voting, let’s begin with the divisional results.
First up, we had one blow out in the divisional finals. The always feared Hannibal Lecter took on Regan/Pazuzu. In a surprisingly one-sided matchup, Lecter carved up his opponent, 76% to 24%. It’s looking like the “Silence of the Lambs” fans are here, and looking to crown him champ. For now, he’s got the Lugosi division crown.
Next up, we had a battle between slash icons. Ghostface was the lowest seeded monster to make the Elite 8. However, he ran into another white-faced slasher, Michael Myers. While the matchup was close, Michael Myers emerged triumphant with a 59% to 41% victory. Looks like Ghostface has to study up on the rules of surviving a horror competition, while Myers holds the Hitchcock trophy.
The battle between Michael Myers and Ghostface weren’t the only blade-wielding monsters in the round. Jack Torrence hasn’t been a dull boy as he axed his competition in round after round. However, Freddy Krueger has been nightmare-inducing against his competition. Something had to give, and Freddy Krueger advances with a 52% to 48% victory. The Carpenter division didn’t disappoint and gave us the closest matchup of the round.
Finally, we had a battle of 60’s and 70’s horror icons. Norman Bates faces off against the ever-dangerous Xenomorphs from the “Alien” franchise. Each character holds a strong place in the genre, making their pre-finals battle one of the best in the competition up to this point. That said, Norman Bates holds off his extraterrestrial foes, 53% to 47%.
Final Four Match-ups
Now that the results have been tabulated we’re left with our Final Four! A great fact about our remaining competitors is how they each represent different eras of horror. We have an icon from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and even the early 1990’s. It’ll be interesting to see how our readers line up their support, but we have an amazing final group. First, Norman Bates will face off against the master of nightmares, Freddy Krueger. Our second Final Four matchup is between Hannibal Lecter and Michael Myers. With such a strong group, we want to hear your support in comments below! Let us know who you want in the finals of Halloween Madness 2017!
