WATCH: Margot Robbie Shines in the New Red Band Trailer for ‘I, Tonya’

1

The official trailer for Neon’sI, Tonya” has arrived!

The film, which has been wildly successful along the festival circuit, stars Margot Robbie as the infamous Olympic figure skater, Tonya Harding. In 1992, Harding found herself in the middle of scandal when rival Nancy Kerrigan was attacked one night after practice. The focus of the attack centered on Harding and caused a shadow to fall on the 1992 Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer.

The film also stars Allison Janney as Harding’s ascerbic mother, LaVona Golden. Janney is a 5-time Golden Globe nominee for “Mom” and “The West Wing,” and a 12-time Emmy nominee. She won four Emmys for “The West Wing,” twice for “Mom,” and once for Outstanding Guest Actress on “Masters of Sex.”

Sebastian Stan co-stars as Harding’s ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly. Gillooly was a prominent figure in the attack on Kerrigan, although to say more would be to spoil the story for anyone unfamiliar with it. Stan is best known for his role as Bucky Barnes in the “Captain America” films. He also played the Mad Hatter on the series “Once Upon a Time.” Earlier this summer, he appeared in “Logan Lucky.”

The cast also includes Bobby Cannavale (“Mr. Robot”), McKenna Grace (“Gifted”), and Julianne Nicholson (“Novitiate”).

Craig Gillespie (“Lars and the Real Girl”) directed from a script by Steven Rogers (“PS, I Love You”).

The film was acquired by upstart distributor Neon after a bidding war that included Netflix, among others. It will be available in limited theatrical release beginning December 8.
