WATCH: Matt Damon Searches for Meaning in New Trailer for ‘Downsizing’

Paramount Pictures just released a new trailer for its upcoming film, “Downsizing.”

In the film from Alexander Payne, Matt Damon decides to join a new movement to preserve natural resources. The process, called Downsizing, shrinks people to just a few inches. Thereafter, they go to live the high life in brand new communities.

Payne is a two-time Oscar winner. He wrote the winning adapted screenplays for “Sideways” and “The Descendants,” and has been nominated for additional writing, directing, and Best Picture prizes. His most recent film, “Nebraska,” earned 6 Academy Award nominations, including Directing and Best Picture.

Matt Damon likewise won his first Academy Award for co-writing the original screenplay for “Good Will Hunting.” That film also earned him a nomination for Best Actor. He was also nominated for his performances in “Invictus” and “The Martian.” And he was part of the producing team behind last year’s Best Picture nominee, “Manchester by the Sea.” He also stars in “Suburbicon,” which is currently playing nationwide.

“Downsizing” also stars a who’s who of supporting players. SNL alums Kristen Wiig and Jason Sudeikis play his wife and close friend, respectively.

Wiig also received her first Oscar nomination for writing “Bridesmaids” as an original screenplay. She had a small role in Damon’s “The Martian,” too, as well as last year’s all-female rebooted “Ghostbusters.” She recently appeared in the divisive film, “mother!” and has signed on for a role in the American remake of “Toni Erdmann” with the recently un-retired Jack Nicholson.

Besides SNL, Sudeikis has starred in a number of comedies including “Horrible Bosses,” “We’re the Millers,” and last year’s “Masterminds.” He also voices Zorn in the animated series “Son of Zorn.”

“Downsizing” also features Hong Chau (“Big Little Lies”) in a performance that is earning rave reviews. Christoph Waltz (“Tulip Fever”), Margo Martindale (“The Americans”), and James Van Der Beek (“What Would Diplo Do?”) appear too.

The film will be in theaters December 22.
