WATCH: Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks Face Hard Decisions in Official Trailer for ‘The Post’

One of the year’s most anticipated films finally has an official trailer.

20th Century Fox selected Stephen Colbert’s Late Show as the venue to debut the trailer for “The Post.”

The film, from legendary director Steven Spielberg, tells the story of the battle to publish controversial government documents, known as the Pentagon Papers. The papers detailed a number of scandals, ultimately shining a light on decades of government corruption.

Meryl Streep is Katharine Graham, the first female editor of a major American newspaper. She runs the Washington Post. Together with editor Ben Bradlee (Tom Hanks), they rush to verify the Pentagon Papers and get them published before rival New York Times.

The film marks the first onscreen collaboration of three-time Academy Award winner Streep and two-time winner Hanks.

“The Post” also stars an array of supporting actors including Allison Brie, Carrie Coon, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Bradley Whitford, and David Cross.

The film was directed by Steven Spielberg. It is his first directorial effort since last year’s Roald Dahl adaptation, “The BFG.” Spielberg has won three Oscars, and been nominated for many more, including a Best Picture nod for the 2015 film, “Bridge of Spies.” That film won Best Supporting Actor for star Mark Rylance.

“The Post” was co-written by Liz Hannah and Josh Singer. It is Hannah’s first outing with a feature length script But, Singer won an Oscar for writing the Original Screenplay for “Spotlight.” He also wrote the script for Damien Chazelle’s next film, “First Man,” which is currently filming.

The film will be in limited release on December 22, before opening nationwide January 12.
