Los Angeles, USA/Rome, Italy, November 10 2017: Award-winning actress Sarah Gadon, star of Netflix’s critically acclaimed “Alias Grace,” and a Canadian and Italian citizen, will be honored by Luce Cinecittà with the inaugural Cinecittà Key at a black carpet event during AFI FEST’17 on Wednesday November 15, 2017, part of Cinecittà 80th anniversary celebration.
The event is produced by Luce Cinecittà under the auspices of the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Italy in Los Angeles, the Italian Trade Agency and the Italian Cultural Institute.
Prior to her highly-lauded star turn in the new Netflix limited series Alias Grace, written and produced by Sarah Polley, based on the book by Margaret Atwood and directed by Mary Harron, Gadon starred in Hulu’s 11.22.63 opposite James Franco, and has been a regular at Berlin, Cannes, Toronto and Venice film Festivals for her roles in acclaimed films such as Denis Villeneuve’s ENEMY, David Cronenberg’s “Cosmopolist,” “A Dangerous Method” and “Maps to the Stars,” Amma Asante’s “Belle,” and James Shamus’ “Indignation.”

In partnership with AFI FEST and the American Cinematheque, cinema, fashion, food excellence will be highlighted at the 13rd edition of Cinema Italian Style; the Los Angeles showcase for the best Italian movies of the year, supporting the Italian entry to the Academy Awards® 2018 – Best Foreign Language Film, “A Ciambra,” by Jonas Carpignano, executive produced by Martin Scorsese, which kicks off the week on November 16, 2017 at the Egyptian Theater.
The event will celebrate Italian actors and filmmakers whose projects will be screened at the 2017 Cinema Italian Style, such as Francesco Bruni (director “Friends by Chance”), Andrea De Sica (director “Children of the Night”), Raffaella Leboroni (actress “Friends by Chance”), MANETTI BROS. (directors “Love and Bullets”), Claudio Santamaria (director short film “THE Millionairs”) and Jasmine Trinca (actress “Fortunata”) in addition to Jonas Carpignano (director “A Ciambra”).
Celebrating the 80th anniversary of Cinecittà and its legendary film studios in a week-marathon full of events, the public will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in Italian culture by discovering digitally restored masterpieces like “Red Desert (Deserto Rosso)” and “Blow Up” by Michelangelo Antonioni (as anticipation of the celebrations for the 10th anniversary of his passing that will kick off on December 7th at the Museum of Modern Art in New York). Both events are part of the official AFI FEST 2017 presented by Audi program.
