It’s that time of year again folks! Welcome back to Academy Idol! This year, we kick off Academy Idol 11! Great champions have taken home the prize, including “Arrival” last season. Let’s review the Academy Idol format for the new readers who have joined us in the past year.

Academy Idol is our weekly competition for the Awards Season, similar to American Idol. Each week, we pose a category for our nominees, and the readers vote to decide on the winners and losers. Each week, we eliminate at least one film. By Oscar week, we will crown our champion. Academy Idol is more of a marathon than ACCA which has led to different results. Last year, our ACCA champion for Best Picture, “La La Land,” which took 7th place. Meanwhile, “Arrival” beat “Moonlight” by a shocking large margin (“Arrival” took over 90% of the vote).

With so many incredible films this year, it was too hard to choose a clear Top 30. There was a lot of debate but here are the Top 30 films of 2017, separated by Adapted and Original Screenplay.

Group 1

Adapted – “Call Me By Your Name,” “Logan,” “It,” “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” “The Beguiled”

There were other incredible films that got left on the sideline (especially in original screenplay), but it’s time to pick your favorites! The top 2 of each category in each group will advance to the next round. The 13th film will be picked based on the remaining films. Good luck with your favorite films, and have fun this season on Awards Circuit!
