‘Lady Bird’ Becomes Rotten Tomatoes’ Best Reviewed Film

Lady Bird” is officially the best reviewed film in the history of Rotten Tomatoes, according to the aggregate site.

The film has earned a record-breaking 165 fresh reviews, with zero rotten reviews, giving it a coveted 100% perfect RT score. It surpasses “Toy Story 2” as the best-reviewed film.

Upon announcing the news, Rotten Tomatoes reached out to director Greta Gerwig for a comment:

“This is completely amazing and so incredibly appreciated by the entire team that made ‘Lady Bird.’ We put our heart and souls into this movie, and the last step of this deeply collaborative art form of filmmaking is giving the film to the audience and the film critics. That there has been such a warm reception is a dream come true. Thank you to everyone who has seen the film and has written about it so thoughtfully. We are all on cloud nine and using our tomato emoji more than we ever thought possible.”

“Lady Bird” is the story of 17-year-old Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson, a high school senior desperate to leave her hometown. Two-time Academy Award nominee Saoirse Ronan stars as Lady Bird. Laurie Metcalf co-stars as her caring but exhausted mother. Tracy Letts, Beanie Feldstein, Lucas Hedges, and Timothée Chalamet also star.

A24 distributed the film in the US, where it has done very well at the box office. In its opening weekend, it scored a $90K per theater average on just four screens. It has since grossed more than $10M upon opening wider last weekend.

Last week, “Lady Bird” scored four Independent Spirit Award nominations, including Best Feature Film.
