Today caps off a banner year for MGM Television as the studio raked in a record six Golden Globe nominations for their shows “The Handmaid’s Tale” and “Fargo.” Mark Burnett, President of Group & Digital at MGM, released a statement on the nominations, saying:
“We could not be more proud of everyone at MGM Television for a record breaking year of Golden Globe nominations. We are enormously grateful that our ground-breaking shows have been recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press this year. Our team continues to work with the best talent in their fields who have created and delivered very unique storytelling.”
Warren Littlefield, who produced both shows, thanked the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, saying:
Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. This past year has been an exhilarating and demanding one for me. This morning’s Golden Globe nominations for both ‘Fargo’ and ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ are a wonderful reminder of the rewards of what I do.
The news of both shows’ nominations is unsurprising, as both have praised by fans and critics alike. “The Handmaid’s Tale,” which released its first season earlier this year, swept the Primetime Emmys with 12 nominations, going on to win 8 Emmys for outstanding drama series, cinematography for a single-camera series, production design, directing (Reed Morano, “The Skeleton Twins”), writing for a drama series (Bruce Miller, “Eureka”), lead actress (Elisabeth Moss, “Mad Men”) and guest actress (Alexis Bledel, “Gilmore Girls”), and supporting actress (Ann Dowd, “Garden State”). “Fargo” has won 2 Golden Globes and 6 Primetime Emmys since premiering in 2014.
Based upon the Margaret Atwood novel of the same name, “The Handmaid’s Tale” imagines a cruel dystopian world where single women are forced to become concubines. The series stars Moss, Bledel, Dowd, Yvonne Strahovski (“Chuck”), Samira Wiley (“Orange Is The New Black”), Joseph Fiennes (“American Horror Story”), Max Minghella (“The Social Network”), Amanda Brugel (“Room”), Madeline Brewer (“Orange Is The New Black”), O-T Fagbenle (“Looking”) and more, with creator and writer Miller helming the series.
“Fargo” follows a tale of deception, danger, murder and intrigue in a cold Minnesota which all tie back to Fargo, ND. The series has a large roster of current and previous stars, including Allison Tolman (“The Gift”), Billy Bob Thorton (“Goliath”), Colin Hanks (“Life in Pieces”), Martin Freeman (“The Hobbit” trilogy) and Ewan McGregor (“The Beginners”).
