341 Feature Films are in Contention for 2017 Best Picture OSCAR®

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today that 341 feature films are eligible for Best Picture. This is up slightly from last year’s 336 eligible films.

In order to qualify for consideration, the following rules apply:

  • Films must open in a commercial motion picture theater in Los Angeles County by midnight, December 31
  • Feature films must run for seven consecutive days
  • Must have a run time of more than 40 minutes
  • Must have been exhibited theatrically on 35mm or 70mm film or in qualifying digital format

The list of eligible feature films includes the expected names like “Call Me By Your Name,” “Dunkirk,” and “The Shape of Water.” “Mudbound” qualified, of course. As did “Darkest Hour,” “Hostiles,” and “Wonder Woman.”

And other films that satisfied the requirements for consideration include “The Emoji Movie,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” and “Baywatch.”

The official nominations for the 90th Academy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, January 23, 2018.

The 90th Oscars® will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018. They will be broadcast live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on ABC at 6:30p.m. ET/3:30p.m. PT. Jimmy Kimmel returns to host the show that will be broadcast to more than 225 countries and territories around the world.
