Berlin Film Festival: Gus Van Sant’s ‘Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot’ Among First Group of Titles Selected for Competition

The first group of films selected for competition at the Berlin Film Festival were released on Monday, along with the names of two new features set to premiere at the Berlinale Special. Joining Wes Anderson’s “Isle of Dogs” is Gus Van Sant’s latest offering, “Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot” featuring Joaquin Phoenix (“Walk the Line”), Jonah Hill (“War Dogs”) and Rooney Mara (“Carol”). The film, which is the only other US film announced so far, follows the real story of quadriplegic cartoonist John Callahan, set to be portrayed by Phoenix.

The Berlin Film Festival will feature films from across Europe, with  Isabel Coixet’s “The Bookshop” and German director Lars Kraume’s “Das Schweigende Klassenzimmer” invited to premiere at the Berlinale Special, according to Deadline. The Berlinale Special was created by the festival to shine a spotlight on particular films that deserve the recognition, whether it be due to world events or excellent work from cinematic legends.
