Shonda Rhimes’ ‘Scandal,’ ‘How To Get Away With Murder’ Crossover Event in the Works

Two very different characters in Shondaland will cross paths for the first time. Shonda Rhimes, the creative force behind “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Scandal” and “How To Get Away With Murder” (HTGAWM) confirmed via Twitter on Wednesday that a crossover episode between “Scandal” and HTGAWM is officially on.

Her tweet, featured above, tells fans will see the brilliant Olivia Pope and Annalise Keating cross paths very soon, and revealed a script page detailing their meeting; Rhimes HTGAWM executive producer Peter Nowalk in the tweet, who retweeted the script page. Here’s a transcript of the script page:

Olivia (Pope): People think we lie for a living. In fact, the truth is often our greatest weapon. [Pause] Anyone else?

There’s silence for a beat, then, from the back of the room:

Voice (O.S.): Not knowing they’re in a crisis.

Olivia looks up, meets eyes with the voice who answered.

Olivia: Very good. Miss…

Annalise: Keating. Annalise Keating.

Kerry Washington and Viola Davis, who play the notoriously powerful women, teased the news before Rhimes’ official confirmation, tweeting out pics of themselves in full costume on their sister-show’s set.

The timing couldn’t be better for “Scandal,” which is currently enjoying its seventh and final season that will end in April, according to Vulture. The upcoming crossover is written by Raamla Mohamed (“Off the Map”) and directed by Tony Goldwyn, who plays the lovestruck former President Fitzgerald Grant on “Scandal,” according to EW.

According to EW, the crossover episode will air sometime in March; no word yet on what exactly will go down in the landmark episode. As Annalise has been putting together a lawsuit to take down the fundamentally broken U.S. justice system, perhaps her actions catch the attention of “Scandal’s” Oval Office? Or will Olivia Pope need some legal advice? One can only guess on how to two power players will get along, but I’m guessing the answer is swimmingly.

Both shows, alongside the immortal “Grey’s Anatomy,” will return with new episodes on Jan. 18.
