Margot Robbie as Tonya Harding

The Writers Guild of America announced their nominations (better known as WGA Awards) and it offered up plenty of surprises.  We already knew that contenders like “Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri,” “Darkest Hour,” and “Victoria and Abdul” were not eligible for the prize.

The big surprise inclusions were Steven Rogers’ masterful script for “I, Tonya” and the illustrious comedy and drama mix of “The Big Sick” by Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon.  On the Adapted side, “Logan” was the superhero representation instead of “Wonder Woman.”

The misses included “The Post” by Liz Hannah and Josh Singer, “Dunkirk” by Christopher Nolan, “The Florida Project” by Sean Baker and Chris Bergoch, and “Phantom Thread” by Paul Thomas Anderson.
